The project brief included a pavilion that could be used as an entertainment space or guest accommodation. Set in a terraced garden on an estate with a renovated face-brick house, the pavilion overlooks leafy gardens.
A new lap-pool, one level below the pavilion, would add to the multi-purpose intent. A steel frame was chosen to compliment an existing conservatory on the estate and allow for rapid construction. Steel frame doors articulate the openings in a continuos, glass wall on two sides of the pavilion. A massive red-brick wall links the new addition visually and tactfully to to the main house while nestling the building into the slope. This wall also houses the majority of services and storage for the building.
A sailing roof covers the main volume and steps down to a glass roof over the bathroom. The experience of the building is intended as both intimate and linked to its beautiful surroundings. Electronically operated blinds allow for privacy.
